HISTORY
30 years and counting
The Pike Market Senior Center is not only unique in its membership, but also its humble beginnings back in 1978. It's original location was a former bikers bar, The Motherlode Tavern. Community
volunteers worked hard scrubbing the walls and floors to transform the space into a working Senior Center &
Medical Clinic.
Two years later, the Senior Center opened its doors to its new space below the Virginia Inn, at 1st & Virginia.
For 28 years, this was the Pike Market Senior Center's home.
In July 2006, thanks to years of planning and hard work from The Market Foundation and Pike Place Market
PDA, the Pike Market Senior Center moved into its current location in the heart of Pike Place Market - just off of
Post Alley, below the famous Market Clock.
The new space offers a large activity area, a state-of-the-art kitchen and an inspiring view of Elliott Bay.
